The Shape of the Work

musings about work

Some things take form all at once. Others reveal themselves in pieces—fragments waiting for a frame.

There’s a rhythm to making, though it isn’t always felt at first. A pull between impulse and refinement, between letting things be and knowing when to intervene. Some works resist, some slip into place. The process is rarely predictable, but the shape always arrives.

Where It Lands

It’s not just what’s made but where it lands. A piece shifts depending on its surroundings—a sentence on a page, a color on a screen, a card held between fingers. The way something is received is part of its existence.

That’s the part of the process that lingers. Not just making but placing. Letting the work sit in space. Seeing how it holds, how it breathes.

Leaving It There

Eventually, it’s done. Not necessarily finished, but done enough to step back. To let it live without interference.

Some works ask to be held longer. Others only exist in passing. But they all, in some way, take shape.

And that’s enough.
